June, 1995 - Present Senior Application Specialist, Cognos Corporation

Responsible for delivering end-user training and consulting related to Cognos’ industry leading software products. In the role of Senior Application Specialist, I am responsible for insuring that a customer is completely successful in their use of Cognos products.

Accomplishments:

I have worked with a variety of Cognos customers and partners assisting them in implementing Business Intelligence solutions. A few of these have included:

    • Hyperion Software - BI Connection, various Impromptu consulting and automation projects
    • PeopleSoft - PowerCube automation

1990 - May, 1995 Consultant

My clients while consulting have included the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory (SSCL), Mary Kay Cosmetics and Auto Fuel Company of Abilene, Texas.

Accomplishments:

    • Developed screens, reports, SQL scripts and shell scripts for the SSCL's Asset Management System utilizing SQL*Forms 3.0 and SQL*Plus in the SunOS environment.
    • Enhanced and maintained the SSCL's Material Tracking System. This work includes development of several new screens with SQL*Forms, development of numerous reports and table maintenance scripts utilizing SQL*Plus. All forms in this system are coupled with SQL*Menu to provide pull down menus for the screens.
    • Developed numerous business reports and utilities for the SSCL utilizing SQL*Plus and SQL*Loader.
    • Developed a user driven Materials reporting system with GQL as the client software, hosted by Oracle running on a SunOS server platform.
    • Designed, developed and implemented FoxPro modules to enhance the performance of the SSCL's project management (Cobra) software. This Netware based software was used to fulfill the Laboratory's governmental reporting requirements.
    • Designed and developed an order entry system for Mary Kay Cosmetics. This system supported orders from multiple promotion periods, calculated all taxes and shipping charges, verified and decremented product inventory and verified credit card payments on-line.
    • Designed and developed a warehouse Labor Tracking system in FoxPro for Mary Kay Cosmetics. I latter migrated this application to the Windows version of FoxPro.
    • Developed an M.I.S. plan, designed and planned installation of a company wide PC/Netware network for Auto Fuel Company.
    • Extensive development and documentation of accounts receivable, billing and sales tracking applications in FoxBase+ and C for Auto Fuel Company.

 

1980 - 1989 E-Z Serve, Inc., Abilene and Bedford, Texas.

During my employment by E-Z Serve (purchased by Harken Marketing) I managed and developed applications on Hewlett-Packard platforms in PowerHouse for nine years. This was a small I.S. shop, therefore, I was continually involved in applications development and system administration.

 

1983 - 1989 M.I.S. Director:

Responsible for systems development, support and operations for this $400 million gasoline marketer. Reported to the Chief Financial Officer. Supervised a staff of 12 personnel.

Accomplishments:

    • Directed development of a Retail and Wholesale Business Management System consisting of 900+ PowerHouse programs. This is a totally integrated set of applications for tracking retail sales performance, controlling supply costs and managing inventory levels.
    • Migrated an extensive set of applications software from the Hewlett-Packard 3000 series 70 to the series 950. I personally developed the migration plan, rewrote utility procedures in C (formerly written by myself in SPL) and administered the operating systems on both platforms.
    • Administered a distributed network of four Hewlett-Packard 3000 systems.

 

1980 - 1983 Assistant Data Processing Manager/Programming Manager:

Supervised a staff of five programmer/analysts in system design, development and support. Also, performed the duties of a systems manager.

Accomplishments:

    • Design and development of a support system for AutoGas point of sale equipment. This package provided centralized management and transaction polling of a distributed network of AutoGas units.
    • Design and development of a credit card accounts receivable system.
    • Installation of Personnel Data Systems PASS/ACCUPAY software for corporate payroll/personnel functions.
    • Directed migration of subsidiary operations to a uniform hardware platform (Hewlett-Packard) from Digital Equipment and IBM systems.
    • Designed and developed a complete Fixed Assets system.

 

1975 - 1980 North American Petroleum Corporation, Abilene, Texas.

Programmer/Analyst:

Developed and supported a variety of applications systems including royalty division of interest. Utilized IBM and Hewlett-Packard 3000 hardware.

EDUCATION: Certificate in Business Data Processing from Savannah Area Technical College, Savannah, Georgia.

Earned the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals' Certificate in Data Processing in 1983.
